Programme

Hospital Literacy and Play

Weekly literacy and play sessions through partner hospitals, so a hospital day can be a day with a book, a game and someone glad to see you.

What happens

Our trained volunteers bring story circles, reading buddies, games and art to children's bedsides and wards.

Who it is for

Children aged 5 to 18 living with chronic illness who are receiving treatment in partner hospitals.

Our aims

  • Keep children learning and engaged with stories through treatment
  • Bring joy, play and normal childhood experiences into the ward
  • Reduce isolation through bonds with volunteers and other children
  • Give parents relief in seeing their child engaged and smiling
